Privacy Policy – Advaita Ray

Short version: Advaita Ray has no user account of its own and does not collect or analyse your behaviour. Apple sync uses your iCloud account; Android sync is optional and uses the private AppData area of your Google Drive after you connect your Google account. There is no advertising or tracking, and this website sets no cookies.

1. What you enter in the app

Your name, profile photo, progress, favourites and settings are first stored locally in the app. Which of these data also sync across devices depends on the platform, as described in section 2. I cannot read the content stored in the app or in your private cloud area.

2. iCloud and Google Drive AppData

On iPhone, iPad and Mac, the app synchronises your progress, free days already used, language, appearance, reminder time, your favourites and whether you have started the programme through Apple's private iCloud key-value store. Your name and profile photo remain on each Apple device only. On Android, sync is optional: only after you connect a Google account does the app request the non-sensitive drive.appdata permission and store your name, reduced profile photo, progress, free days already used, favourites and settings in the hidden AppData area of your Google Drive. This area is accessible only to Advaita Ray under your Google account and is not visible in the normal Drive interface. Purchases are not stored there. I operate no sync server and cannot access either cloud area. Apple or Google processes the data under its own privacy terms. Legal basis for providing sync is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR; the optional Google connection is additionally based on your consent under Art. 6(1)(a), which you can withdraw at any time by disconnecting Google Drive in the app.

3. Photo

If you choose a profile picture, the app copies it in reduced size into its own storage. The app does not gain access to your photo library beyond the picture you select. On Apple devices the copy remains on that device; on Android it is included in your private Google Drive AppData sync only if you connect Google Drive.

4. Notifications

If you switch on the daily reminder, the notification is created locally on your device. No push server is involved and no data is transmitted. You can switch it off at any time in the app or in system settings.

5. Purchases

The app itself counts the 14 free days already used. The optional one-time purchase is processed by Apple's App Store or, on Android, Google Play. I do not receive your card or bank details from the stores. Their developer consoles can provide sales reports and details of individual orders, such as order IDs; Google Play also allows orders to be searched by the buyer's email address. The privacy policy of Apple or Google applies to the payment processing.

6. Contacting me

If you write to support@advaita-ray.info or privacy@advaita-ray.info, I process your email address and the content of your message solely in order to answer you. I delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed, unless statutory retention periods apply. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries).

7. No advertising, no tracking

The app contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking SDK. On Android, Google Play services are used only for the Google authorisation you choose and access to the private Drive AppData folder, for the optional purchase through Google Play Billing and for Google Play's in-app rating dialog. On Apple devices the app uses Apple's system dialog for app ratings. Whether a rating dialog appears is decided locally in the app from a usage counter and the date of first launch; this information stays on the device. If you rate the app, Apple or Google processes the rating under its own privacy terms. Your usage behaviour is not recorded, evaluated or passed on.

8. This website and hosting

This website sets no cookies, uses no additional analytics tools and embeds no fonts, maps or videos from third parties. The fonts are delivered from this server. Only if you choose a language or colour scheme yourself is that preference stored in your browser's local storage so the site can display it again on your next visit; it is not used for tracking. The site is hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. According to STRATO, its web hosting runs in its data centres in Berlin and Karlsruhe. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR applies to STRATO's processing on my behalf; STRATO lists its sub-processors in Annex 2 of that agreement. When you call up a page, STRATO processes technical server log data, including your IP address. According to STRATO, it stores the IP address for attack detection and prevention for at most seven days. For eligible hosting plans, STRATO also provides anonymised access logs for the preceding six weeks and aggregated access statistics for longer periods. The logs serve the technical operation and security of the site. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure and trouble-free operation).

9. Deleting your data

In the app under Settings → Data → Delete all data (Android) or Delete personal data and progress (Apple) you can delete your name, photo, progress, favourites and settings from the current device. On Apple devices, the synchronised progress, favourites and settings are reset through iCloud; names and photos stored locally on other Apple devices must be deleted on those devices separately. On Android, the deletion is passed to connected Android devices when Google Drive sync succeeds. The number of free days already used, the purchase status and technical deletion markers remain so that deleting data does not restart the free period or restore older data. Merely uninstalling the app may leave a private cloud copy available for a later reinstallation. Store purchases remain with Apple or Google and can be restored.

10. Children

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data about them.

11. Your rights

You have the right to information, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, where the legal requirements are met. You may withdraw consent for optional Google Drive sync by disconnecting it in the app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. These rights may concern correspondence, payment information from voluntary support and website server logs as well as data stored in the app. For data I cannot access in your private iCloud or Google Drive area, use the app's deletion function or the respective provider's controls. 14. Voluntary support via PayPal and bank transfer

On the developer page you can support my work voluntarily. The link leads to PayPal (PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., Luxembourg). No scripts, buttons or payment forms from PayPal are loaded on this website, and no payment data is collected here. Only when you click that link do you leave this website; a connection to PayPal is then established and your IP address is transmitted to them. PayPal's privacy policy applies to its processing. For a payment, PayPal may provide me with information about the payment and payer, such as a name, email address, amount and transaction ID. If you instead transfer money directly to the IBAN shown, my bank passes on your name, your IBAN and the reference text. I use payment information only to handle the support payment and for bookkeeping, and retain it for the statutory retention periods. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR.
